Walking the Hebridean Way
Long-distance walking route through Scotland's Outer Hebrides
The stunning landscape, varied geology, exceptional wildlife and numerous antiquities of the Outer Hebrides are truly awe-inspiring. Launched in 2017, the Hebridean Way takes two weeks to walk and weaves its way across 10 different islands with considerable variety along the way. In the morning you can be walking across a wild moor then in the afternoon along a blindingly white shell beach beside turquoise seas.
The Hebridean Way currently stretches 247km (155 miles) from Vatersay to Stornoway. This guide extends the route to the Butt of Lewis, in line with future plans.
- best between April and October
- a mostly low-level, waymarked route, with remote, pathless moorland crossings
- the full route in 10 stages plus two additional stages between Stornoway and the Butt of Lewis
